Nanchong is taking the lead in upgrading its industrial system and developing as a key economic center in Sichuan province, according to local officials.

The city launched a project in 2016 to develop five industrial clusters of automobile and auto parts, petroleum and chemicals, silk and garment, modern logistics and modern agriculture, with the value of each surpassing 100 billion yuan ($14 billion).

By the end of 2018, the total output of Nanchong's modern agriculture industry had exceeded 100 billion yuan, achieving the year's goal in advance.

As a key region for organic agriculture, Xichong county in the city has built 105 production bases covering more than 12,000 hectares. The area is expected to expand to 20,000 hectares by 2025.

Another highlight in the agriculture sector is intelligent technology, through which the efficiency and quality of the production has been improved greatly.

At the Nanchong national agricultural technology park, an array of cameras and detectors are installed across the area to monitor the growth of crops.

The real-time data and pictures can be automatically transmitted to the control center. Once the indicators are abnormal, the smart system alarm will sound immediately and provide solutions.

With this advantage, the county's food processing industry and rural tourism are on the rise. Orchards and fishponds have become favorable choices for local people to engage in outdoor activities and leisure life.

The automobile and auto parts industry is Nanchong's traditional competitive sector.

To maintain its advantage, the city government has set up a special work group to attract investment.Great support has been provided to enterprises for patents application and productions innovation.

At present, the second phase of Chinese automaker Geely's new energy commercial vehicle project is under construction. With a combined investment of 6.8 billion yuan, the project is planned to be completed by the end of 2019 and realize an annual output of30.2 billion yuan.

According to official figures, the annual production ofautomobile and auto parts cluster valued at 70.1 billion yuan last year.

A total of 5,488 cars were produced, including 4,404 new energy trucks and 576 new energy buses.

For the modern logistics industry, the government is advancing the construction of several sites across the city. Located in Gaoping district, the modern logistics park is the core site of Nanchong's logistics industrial cluster.

With an investment of up to 32 billion yuan, the park includes eight industrial districts and four function platforms including the multimodal transport systems.

Statistics show since 2016, the park has contracted 19 major projects and more than 2,000 enterprises including Haier and SF Express.

The total output value of logistics in the park reached 33 billion yuan in 2018.

"When completed in 2025, it will be able to handle 40 million metric tons of cargo each year, providing jobs for more than 80,000 people," said He Yijun, director of the management committee of the Nanchong modern logistics park. "Logistics will drive the economic development of the whole city."

The petroleum and chemicals industry is Nanchong's traditional competitive sector.

The city government has actively promoted industrial chain and structure optimization. Enterprises are encouraged to upgrade technology in line with the principle of green development.

In 2018, the petroleum and chemicals industrial cluster realized an annual output of 35.2 billion yuan.

In addition to the industrial clusters, the Nanchong goverment also makes continuing efforts to foster five emerging industries of electronic information, new materials, high-end equipment manufacturing, biomedicine and energy-saving and environmental protection. These industries generated 25.8 billion yuan in annual output in 2018.(Source: China Daily)
