[Case Studies] Brands fall in chaos due to lacking defensive trademark registration

Published on 01/08 2014 Source:

Defensive trademark registration is to defend your brand when you promote the goods and services in the Chinese market. Your failure of defensive trademark registration would be regrettable. For example, you're a food-producing corporation and own a registered trademark "ABCD"in Class 30 (food) in China. You have advertised and promoted for it at a huge price, and the consumers start to recognize this brand. But someone else filed the same trademark in Class 5 (medicine) to take advantage of its influence. That will result in consumers' bad impression of "ABCD" like medicine or insecticide (these are in Class 5) when enjoying its food. Your brand would be tarnished and even lose some of the customers. So we suggest that defensive trademark registration should be entrusted to conduct by the CTPLO. The CTPLO thinks that it is better done now than late.
