The BRICs IP Coordinating Team established

The fourth BRICs IP offices conference was recently held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. On the conference, Commissioner of SIPO Shen Changyu held talks with acting director of Brazil’s National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), acting director of Russia’s IP Office, director of India’s Patent, Industrial design and Trademark Office, director of South Africa’s IPR Registration Office.
During the conference, all the parties involved have reviewed the history of cooperation between the BRICs IP offices and held in-depth discussions on further cooperation. Five IP Offices all agreed that resources could be integrated and cooperation could be deepened in the following areas, namely, improving public IP awareness, personnel training, examiner exchanges, acceptance procedure, information service, national and enterprise IP strategy and cooperation international forum. Also, the offices agreed that publications on BRICs IP offices will be printed to deliver information on IP system and policies. Meanwhile, according to the conference agendas, Russia’s IP Office will preside over the next conference.
During the visit, Shen held bilateral talks with acting director of Brazil’s National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), acting director of  Russia’s IP Office, director of  India’s Patent, Industrial design and Trademark Office, director of South Africa’s IPR Registration Office. Also, Shen visited Huawei Company’s agency in Rio de Janeiro and debriefed Huawei’s IP layout and overseas business development. Some other representatives joined the talks.
Dating back to 2012, the BRICs IP offices conference was initiated. Up to now, the three-level conference mechanism, namely, director meeting, contacts meeting, project group meeting, were established. The cooperation roadmap for some major fields, including improving public IP awareness, personnel training, examiner exchanges, acceptance procedure, information service, national and enterprise IP strategy and international forum cooperation.
