Beijing claims the largest number of artificial intelligence companies and patents in China, said local government officials Monday.

Mao Dongjun, Beijing Commission of Economy and Information Technology deputy director, said Beijing has been working on innovation in accordance with national strategic needs, at a conference on the city's high-quality development.

Beijing is home to 400 AI-based companies with more than 8,000 registered patents, according to the commission.

Beijing has established two national-level manufacturing innovation centers on power batteries and lightweight materials, as well as 11 city-level industrial innovation centers focused on graphene and intelligent vehicle network.
