China should attach importance to the establishment and construction of intellectual property courts and modernize IP-involved judicial systems and judicial capacity with innovative ideas and reform measures.

Tao Kaiyuan, vice president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) made the remarks at a seminar on the work of IP courts in Dongguan, Guangdong province on May 25.

Aiming to let the people feel fairness and justice in every single case, the IP courts in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou have promoted the construction of courts through intensifying judicial protection of intellectual property rights and improving trial mechanisms, Tao said.

The purpose of launching IP courts is to take full advantage of specialization, unify sentencing standards, improve the quality and efficiency of trials, and provide a strong judicial guarantee and support for the construction of an innovative country through specialized judicial bodies and judges professionalism, Tao noted.

The establishment of IP courts in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou is a historic milestone for China's judicial protection of intellectual property rights, Tao added.

She also called for efforts in IP court construction from a global developmental perspective and for courage to be shown in breaking through the fences of self-interest so as to ensure the implementation of all tasks.
